    Re: appy at burton

    From the KTN...

Last year, the Raiders beat the Bulldogs 47-0 in the regular season and again in the Region D championship game, 62-22.

"We're looking forward to getting back on the field,"? Austin said. "We got outscored 109-22 last year. So we really need to get out there and go at it ... really play and execute."?

The Bulldogs have their work cut out for them. The Raiders return most of the significant skill personnel from a squad Austin admits "got gypped out of a state championship"? in 2006. Among the returning offensive luminaries that shone most brightly last week were quarterback Ethan Stewart and slotbacks Jaymil Sensabaugh and Jaycob Coleman.

"I'd say last year's games are a motivation for Appalachia. That's what concerns me,"? said Burton coach Jimbo Adams, who has no fear of competitive emotions getting out of hand.

"Any two programs that have been in the playoffs as much as us and Appalachia ... there's a lot of respect for one another. These teams know how much work goes into getting into that position."?

Appalachia's returning offensive stars include power back Brett Leedy and speedster Morgan Ireson "? the LPD's 100-meter dash champion.

Austin likes having one of the LPD's fastest running backs. But he doesn't know how much of an edge that will be when facing Burton's defense "? collectively one of the quickest defensive units in the state.

"They get off blocks so well you can't keep them blocked,"? Austin said. "They're so fast. They get 11 to the ball. Anything you do, they disrupt you."?

If I'm not mistaken Appy held Norton to 18 points in the regular season game in 2005.

In 2005 you are correct, they did hold Burton to 18 points in the regular season. I think he was talking about last year counting both the regular season 47-0 and the playoffs 62-22 resulting in a 109-22 point spread last season.

Was it 18-0 in 05? Harris and Miles clogged up the middle pretty good and we hit em with a half back pass that you could see coming a mile away.

Must have been a good defensive plan that year. I hope Appy can duplicate it this year.

    Re: appy at burton

The biggest difference between then and now is Stewarts development. I think that was his 2nd game ever. He has came a long way since then. I never thought that he could be as good as he is because he was just dreadful to watch throw the ball downfield back in those days. I cant imagine how much hard work he has put into it. Honestly, hes not a natural athlete. I really compare him to a Ken Dorsey type of player thats very intelligent. Obviously he can run by people whereas Dorsey couldnt but Dorsey probably could run by people at the high school level.

    Re: appy at burton

Appy has no chance, several of the main players are heavy smokers and in very poor shape. Austin has no handle on the program, no disipline, no motivation. The politics that Coach Turner kept out of the program has taken over. Austin will be luckey if he remains the head coach after this year.
